Chimene Steele-Prior

Chimene is a Naarm based performer, teacher and choreographer. Chimene has worked with artists including Natalie Cursio Co/Reckless sleepers (UK), Sheridan Lang, Shaun McLeod, Shian Law, Melissa Jones, Rob McCredie, Geoffrey Watson, Stephanie Lake, Omer Backley-Astrachan, Lewis Major and Lauren Langlois. She worked extensively with Opera Australia between 2011-2021, touring throughout Australia and China. In 2022 Chimene performed in Project Animo’s inaugural season at the Melbourne Arts Centre, in works by Alice Topp, Kristina Chan, Cass Mortimer-Eipper and Izzac Thomas. Chimene is currently working with Australasian Dance Collective on Lucie on the Sky by Amy Hollingsworth, which will be presented in May 2023 at QPAC.

Chimene’s choreographic work has been presented at the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Lawler Theatre, Melbourne Fringe Festival Hub and the Winter in Banyule Festival. Her solo work IN FORMATION II was nominated for a Green Room Award for Concept and Realisation in 2015. Chimene created OBSERVED (2020) and ASCEND (2022) on the graduating students of Transit Dance. CONSTELLAR (2021) on Albert Park College students, and ONISM (2021) , Co-Directed with Benjamin Sheen on the 2nd year students at the National Institute of Circus Arts.

Chimene is a certified Countertechnique teacher and has taught at institutions throughout Australia and in Amsterdam.
