One Body, One Career – July 2016
In 2016, we’re looking forward to presenting once again the very successful One Body, One Career intensive in Melbourne, Australia, from 18 to 29 July. Bringing participants from all over the world since 2006, these international intensives are a first hand opportunity to learn about Anouk van Dijk’s Countertechnique method.
Curated and taught by Chunky Move Artistic Director, Anouk van Dijk, in conjunction with international guest teachers, Countertechnique Master TeacherNina Wollny and American Alexander Technique expert Tom Koch, the intensive is for professional dancers and advanced students interested in pursuing a long, healthy and successful career in dance.
First time participants will gain an intensive introduction to the distinct elements and methodology that form Countertechnique, Anouk van Dijk’s movement system and training method. Returning participants will have the opportunity to deepen and expand their understanding. Through theory, physical practice, discourse and workshops, participants will gain a set of practical tools that they will be able to draw from and apply in their daily dance practice.
This year’s intensive will offer daily Countertechnique classes and Practical Tools sessions. Nina Wollny will teach her much sought-after partnering workshop and Tom Koch will build on his specific approach of Alexander Technique for dancers in plenary and individual sessions. Anouk van Dijk and Nina Wollny will lead creative workshops on the use of communication on the dance floor, both in practice and in performance. In addition, participants will learn recent company repertoire with Chunky Move dancer and Countertechnique teacher Niharika Senapati. The intensive will conclude with a shared presentation of the various workshops.
* Please note: for those who wish to further their practice, Countertechnique classes will run the week following the intensive as part of our regular professional dance class program. Classes will be taught by international guest teachers who are in Melbourne for the biennial Countertechnique Teachers Training (CTTT).
