GLOW
Twenty years after Chunky Move’s groundbreaking fusion of dance and technology debuted, Glow returns to beam light on a new era of the digital aura.
Beneath the glow of the video tracking system, a moving body mutates in and out of human form into unfamiliar, sensual and grotesque creature states. A digital landscape morphs and unfolds in real time. The primal meets the pre-programmed in an ongoing battle for the solarised edges of the real.
In 2006, choreographer Gideon Obarzanek worked with interactive software developer Frieder Weiss on this choreographic essay. They used newly developed technology that allowed the dancer to trigger and control music, lighting and animation. It forged a seminal duet between body and light.
This is a rare opportunity to witness a defining Chunky Move legacy work, performed by original cast member Sara Black (Mortal Engine, Assembly) and current Chunky Move dancer Melissa Pham (U>N>I>T>E>D, 4/4), and independent dancer and artist Layla Meadows.
