Put the Money in the Bag if you want to dance.

Partners in crime raise the stakes and go all out on a dance heist, bigger than ever before. The window is short and the road is dangerous; will they make it out alive?

In CUDDLE, Chunky Move dancers (Token Armies and 4/4) and independent artists, Harrison Ritchie-Jones and Michaela Tancheff, expertly explore and subvert expectations around intimacy.

Circled around the space like spectators at a wrestling match, the audience witness a difficult, dynamic duel that’s full of surreal sonic and visual surprises.

The 2023 edition of Choreolab will be held 22–24 March as part of FRAME: A Biennial of Dance, and is presented as part of Δ (Change From Aotearoa), a bilateral project curated by Jonathan Homsey and Efren Pamilacan that centres Street Dance.

Choreolab 2023: Δ (Change from Aotearoa) features three of Aotearoa’s (New Zealand) leading dance innovators grounded in Vogue, Waving, Creature Movement work and World-Building: Jahra Wasasala, Ooshcon and Jaycee Iman. Each artist will share their practice and spectrum of techniques rooted in various Street Dance techniques and Ballroom Dance foundations to develop Creature Movement studies and build choreographic worlds.

Through Te Moana Nui a Kiwa (Pacific) modes of storytelling and talanoa (exchange), Jahra, Ooshcon and Jaycee anchor a web of physical connections, empowering a diverse ecology of aesthetics, and expanding movement potentials.

As part of the company’s program contributions to the inaugural FRAME, all morning classes between 1 – 31 March are free for the month!

Chunky Move’s Morning Class Program runs 6 days a week featuring Contemporary OPEN and BEGINNER classes.

All of our Classes are taught by Chunky Move artists who are experienced professional dancers and teachers working within Melbourne’s esteemed contemporary dance community.

Open classes: Recommended for intermediate to professional level dancers as well as people who regularly attend dance classes.

Beginner classes: Suitable for people with little to no dance experience.

Countertechnique: A sophisticated system of movement training, enabling dancers to move bigger, more fluidly and more spatially, while becoming stronger and more flexible.

Please note: To reserve your spot, please book ahead of class. There will be a few places available for drop-ins each day, but once capacity is reached (35pax) we will need to turn people away. Any latecomers will forfeit their reservations and may miss out.

End FRAME Closing Party

Chunky Move is delighted to extend an invitation to all FRAME artists, audiences, and friends to join us in celebrating the conclusion of the inaugural festival, which featured an array of incredible dance performances, screenings, workshops, classes and more throughout the month of March.

From 9.30pm (weather permitting) the party will move to the Malthouse Outdoor Stage / Ngargee Courtyard.

Come celebrate with complimentary drinks and jam to the beats of our special guest DJ!
